  • A doula is someone who is trained to support a birthing family or person, in labor, and during the postpartum period. A doula supports the birthing family emotionally, physically, spiritually, and informationally, with focus on the birthing person. A doula is the member of your birth team that provides continuous care from the time that they are called to you in when you are in labor until after you give birth. Mama Nurture Wellness is dedicated to serving families of all shapes, sizes, LGBTQ, cultures, religious backgrounds.

  • Natural infant feeding can be tough in the beginning! You are not alone: 92% of new parents report lactation issues in the first week of their baby's life! In the early days, learning how to work with your infant's behavior to achieve a comfortable latch can be challenging, but not impossible. Let's work together to problem solve why there is discomfort. Mama Nurture Wellness provides numerous lactation services including: lactation consultation, lactation support group, and prenatal lactation education.

  • Child birth educators are someone that teaches expectant parents what to expect during pregnancy, childbirth, and the first few weeks of parenthood. These courses cover the signs of labor, what to expect during labor, pain management techniques, the importance of birth plans, the steps leading to labor, and care the for the new mother and infant after birth. Mama Nurture Wellness utilizes both Evidence Based Birth and Birthing From Within for truly comprehensive childbirth education.

  • Massage Therapy has many benefits. Let's get together

Meet Megan

Doula, Lactation Consultant, Massage Therapist, Childbirth Educator, and Human and Microbial Biologist

I am a Birth Doula and specialize in supporting mothers in their choices in birth: I attend all types of childbirth: Vaginal Births, VBACs, and Family Centered Cesareans. I will be at your birth whether you choose to birth in a Birth Center, in your Home, or at the Hospital. I will support you whether you want a natural and unmedicated birth, want an epidural, or you need to schedule a cesarean section. I also provide Lactation Consultation Services and believe in your ability to feed your baby! I am a Nationally Board Certified Massage Therapist and specialize in Prenatal, Postpartum, and Labor Support massage, as well as, Body Balance Restoration and Pain Reduction. I have a bachelor's degree in Human and Microbial Biology with a minor in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
I believe in an anthropological approach to child rearing and incorporating that into our modern lives. What does this mean? I believe that our society has taken us away from what is natural and away from what is instinctual. When mothers and families are allowed and encouraged to trust their instincts and do what feels right, we have happier healthier and calmer children. Basically, I'm an attachment parenting advocate.
I have been attending births since 2012. I enjoy attending birth as a certified doula. I feel that it really puts all of my other skills into practice in a real and tangible way. I have never been able to fully utilize my skills in such a fluid way before in my career. Assisting families in childbirth is my calling. I feel a sense of purpose when empowering families in childbirth and the early postpartum period. I teach optimal fetal positioning and have completed courses in advanced doula birth center support.
I am hospital trained to provide experienced and appropriate lactation consultation. Much of my clinical experience was among a population of economically disadvantaged, refugee, and immigrant women. Out of this, my style has developed full of empathy for new families and a dedication to minimization of unnecessary interventions in breastfeeding. In the NICU, I experienced premature infant breastfeeding behaviors and challenges. I have helped 26 week old infants in the NICU nurse at the chest of their mother. On postpartum floors, I experienced different cultural aspects of lactation and nursing and have developed an education style that is adaptable and multifaceted. I am able to meet you where you are in your knowledge and experience and present information and build infant feeding skills in a tangible and memorable way.
I have been a massage therapist since 2005. I graduated from an Associate's degree in Therapeutic Massage from Virginia College in Huntsville, Alabama. Shortly after graduating, I completed a certification program in Neuromuscular Therapy from The NMT Center in St. Petersberg, Florida. I received a very thorough neuromuscular education from Judith Delany, LMT, CNMT, the author of Clinical Applications of Neuromuscular Therapy, Volumes 1&2. In my early practice years, I gained much of my experience in aquatic and land physical therapy, neurology, and acute accident clinics. In 2012, the year after my son was born, I refocused my interests on Prenatal, Postpartum, and Labor Support Massage therapy. I have been working exclusively with prenatal, postpartum, and birthing families ever since and I love it!
I also maintain a blog about evidence-based concepts around child birth, lactation, parenting, and education. I'm glad that you've found me and I look forward to meeting you!

  • Testimony from Natalie Sudia

We couldn’t have done this “our way” without Megan’s support, advice, or experience. Her passion kept us going and made a natural birth with minimal interventions possible. She’s AMAZING!!

  • Testimony from Melissa

I had an extremely long labor (36 hours) and she was wonderful! She kept my husband resting and calm. If she can do so well for me and my labor, she can help anyone. I don’t know how I would have done it without her.

  • Testimony from Sophie Melich

Megan Dempsey is amazing. She gave us great support during our pregnancy and made our birth very special. She has a wide knowledge base and is really interested in helping her clients to have the best labor/delivery possible. Having a doula was the best decision we could have made. Prenatal massage was also really helpful and we’ve continued to have support as we breastfeed.

  • Testimony from Anna Ra

A BIG THANK YOU to Megan Dempsey! You made our birth experience so WONDERFUL! Our time at home and at the hospital was so much BETTER with your warm, loving presence!
